Not Every Student is Meant for a Desk: Exploring Careers in the Electrical Trade
Recently, we had the opportunity to welcome Mrs. Grebeck’s College & Career Readiness class from the Wilkes-Barre Area School District to our training center in Nanticoke. Their visit wasn’t just a tour, it was a firsthand look at a career path many students don’t realize exists. For students who prefer hands-on learning over traditional classroom settings, the electrical trade offers something different: a direct pathway into a stable, high-demand career without the burden of college debt.
A Different Kind of Career Path
During their visit, students learned what it really means to become an electrician through our apprenticeship program:
• Earn while you learn with paid, on-the-job training
• Receive structured classroom instruction alongside real-world experience
• Complete a 4-year apprenticeship with industry-recognized credentials
• Graduate with no college debt and a career already in motion
This isn’t just job training. It’s a long-term career with strong earning potential and opportunities for growth in a rapidly evolving industry.
Why It Matters for Today’s Students
Not every student thrives in a traditional college setting, and that’s okay. The demand for skilled tradespeople continues to grow, especially here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
From powering infrastructure to supporting new technologies, electricians are essential to building and maintaining the future. Programs like ours provide an alternative path, one that values skill, work ethic, and hands-on ability just as much as academic achievement.

Opening the Door for More Students
We’re grateful to Mrs. Grebeck and the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for taking the time to introduce her students to these opportunities. Experiences like this help students see what’s possible, and give them the confidence to consider a path they may not have otherwise explored.
Bring Your Students to See It for Themselves
We encourage school counselors, teachers, and educators to connect with us and schedule a visit. For students who are ready to work with their hands, build something real, and step into a career with purpose, this could be the start of something big.
