Considering a career with IBEW Local 163? The first step is the Apprenticeship Aptitude Test—designed to help you showcase your potential.
Every applicant to the IBEW Local 163 JATC apprenticeship program takes an aptitude test. It’s a straightforward way to show your potential in reading comprehension, algebra and mechanical reasoning with no advanced math or prior experience required.
What’s on the Aptitude Test?
Reading Comprehension
Understand and interpret written information relevant to the electrical trade.
Algebra
Mechanical Reasoning
Scoring
A score of 4 or higher qualifies you for an interview. If you score below a 4, you can retake the test after three months.
Remember, many successful apprentices didn’t pass the test the first time. What matters is your determination to keep going!
Tests are offered monthly at our Nanticoke training center.

We want every applicant to feel confident and prepared. That’s why we offer a free aptitude test prep course designed to help you:
- Build confidence in reading, math and mechanical concepts
- Practice with sample test questions
- Learn at your own pace — flexible schedule and materials provided

What Happens Next
Interview Process
Once you pass the aptitude test, you’ll be invited to interview with an 8-member panel made up of IBEW and NECA representatives.
