Aptitude Test

Your First Step Toward a Career in the IBEW

Considering a career with IBEW Local 163? The first step is the Apprenticeship Aptitude Test—designed to help you showcase your potential.

Every applicant to the IBEW Local 163 JATC apprenticeship program takes an aptitude test. It’s a straightforward way to show your potential in reading comprehension, algebra and mechanical reasoning with no advanced math or prior experience required.

What’s on the Aptitude Test?

Reading Comprehension

Understand and interpret written information relevant to the electrical trade.

Algebra

Solve basic equations, demonstrate number sense and apply logical problem-solving.

Mechanical Reasoning

Apply practical thinking to everyday scenarios and trade-related tasks.

Scoring

A score of 4 or higher qualifies you for an interview. If you score below a 4, you can retake the test after three months.

Remember, many successful apprentices didn’t pass the test the first time. What matters is your determination to keep going!

Tests are offered monthly at our Nanticoke training center.
